Pay & commission

How Much Do Sales Jobs Pay in Malaysia?

Sales is one of the few careers where your pay is tied to your results — the ceiling is high, but the way it works confuses a lot of first-timers.

How sales pay is structured

Most sales jobs pay in two parts:

Added together, your realistic total is often called OTE (on-target earnings) — what you make if you hit target.

What sales jobs pay in Malaysia

Average sales executive: about RM3,641/month.

Entry-level base: commonly RM1,800–RM2,800/month, plus commission.

Experienced / high performers: often well above the average, and commission is uncapped in many roles.

How commission works — a simple example

Say your base is RM2,000 and you earn 5% commission. Close RM40,000 of sales in a month and you add RM2,000 in commission — doubling your pay. That is why two people in the same role can take home very different amounts.

What top performers earn

Because commission rewards results, strong salespeople often out-earn colleagues in “higher-status” roles, and progress fast — into senior sales, key-account or team-lead roles within a couple of years.

Make sure you’re a protected employee

A proper sales job means being a registered employee with PERKESO (SOCSO) protection — not an informal, cash-only arrangement that leaves you exposed if you’re injured or fall ill.
